When a good friend comes to town, one of my favorite go-to activities is picking up the Highline on 30th and 10th street and heading down to the Meatpacking District for a little window shopping and some lunch at Chelsea Market. The Highline is a former lifted freight line that had been targeted for demolition until a community-based non-profit group recognized its potential as a public green space. It has since become a popular outdoor activity, granting New Yorker’s a blissful bucolic space with fantastic city views.

The cool thing about the Highline is that it winds through buildings and the small spaces between them, giving you a completely different view of the three neighborhoods through which it passes: Hell’s Kitchen, West Chelsea and the Meatpacking District.
